In other news, black TEC bishops observed that conservative Anglicans in the States have done little to build relationships w/ African-Americans--an irony given their ties to African archbishops. Of course, this speaks not only to racially and geopolitically fraught questions of Anglican identity but also to the wider reality of stateside evangelicalism: It's long been far better on global diversity than on racial integration in its own backyard. (At Wheaton, a fun parlor game is to look at posed, forcibly diverse publicity photos from the college and to point out which African country each black student hails from.) Obviously, there are many reasons for this--not the least of which is the fact that building international relationships is far easier than racial reconciliation. Almost anything is.
