From Third Way to the Poverty Forum: Yawning down faith-based-incrementalism lane

Jim Wallis and Mike Gerson: center-left and center-right Christians agree that we shouldn't just let all the poor people die!

The leftier folks are naturally unimpressed: Sarah Posner, Peter Laarman.

As usual, more interesting criticisms from Mark Silk: Does Gerson really support a higher minimum wage? (If so, when did this happen? And if not, what exactly does this coalition mean?) And why are these guys stepping all over Christian Churches Together, anyway? What's the point of duplicating CCT's impressive work in this way-- "we're like those guys, but less bold and with a less diverse coalition" ?

  1. Thanks for taking notice of The Poverty Forum. I have actually been working with this group and really appreciate what they are doing. I would love to hear more of your thoughts.

  3. To clarify, I certainly do not have a problem with Christians getting together to fight poverty. What's frustrating is seeing a group like this that strategically presents itself as a diverse coalition but in fact ranges from the right to the somewhat-left-of-center but no farther--especially when Christian Churches Together already did this, but with a more diverse coalition (and one of actual church bodies) and a more ambitious agenda. Why not just throw support behind CCT instead?
