My former governor started serving his six-and-a-half-year sentence for racketeering and fraud yesterday.
It was exciting to be in Illinois while he--a Republican!--was creating what is now an increasingly popular model for aggressive gubernatorial action against the numerous problems of the death penalty. He had plans to try to take this work to the international level after leaving office, but instead some of the less-impressive parts of his tenure as governor caught up with him. Here's hoping he's got some energy left when he gets out.
