WTF, food feds? part two: USDA on beef safety

In part one, we looked at the FDA's affection for irradiated food. Well, mostly we fantasized about the unlikely possibility of an Obama administration actually prioritizing a better farm bill in 2012, but we BEGAN the post intending to look at the FDA thing.

Today, the USDA. The agency's Food Safety and Inspection Service decided recently to combat the food safety problems of large beef producers by tightening regulations on...small beef producers.

With a deck this stacked, it must be infuriating to be a small-scale farmer selling at a market and to have to politely answer questions about why things are more expensive than over at Costco or whatever.
