The pope has left the building

Amid the swarm of fairly clueless coverage of the papal visit--yes, I'm aware that I didn't really contribute much of anything to counteract this--there were some interesting pieces. Two of my favorites:

Fr. James Martin on Benedict's admission that he, too, is weak and sinful.

Ann Rodgers, dispensing w/ the standard abortion-and-sexual-abuse focus in her first phrase and then covering what was actually interesting about the pope's speech to the bishops:
In a speech that delved into difficult issues from abortion to immigration and sexual abuse, Pope Benedict XVI charged U.S. bishops to do a better job of making sure that Masses are vibrant invitations to follow Jesus Christ -- or risk losing their church by attrition.
(Shame about the irrelevant and inaccurate headline and dek, but don't blame Rodgers...)
