To some extent, it's the black church tradition, not Jeremiah Wright himself, that the rest of us find so shocking

And that's OUR problem, not Wright's or Obama's or anyone else's. It's an often prophetic, sometimes hyperbolic, always provocative tradition...

  1. I suppose it was inevitable, but I'm pretty grossed about by the coverage this has been getting.

    The black church - the one place that's been the refuge for black life throughout the racism of American history - is now noticed by broader white society, which, in its fear, cries racism. Almost ironic if it weren't so depressing...
