The writer/activist/radio personality/music lover
died today at 96. (Living in Chicago, always hoped I'd get to meet him at some point.) He understood something many people miss: that you can't really participate in improving the situation of marginalized people without taking the time to LISTEN to them.
Studs had a prominent part in Ken Burns' Baseball series; I recall that he was full of delightful anecdotes. Sad that he and Plimpton (who was also featured in that series) would go in back-to-back months.
